FAQ About Manor Lake Assisted Living & Memory Care
We've got an active group of individuals at Penrose Harbor, taking part in most of the greater Heron's Key community events. We have avid bridge players, book clubs, artists and wine connoisseurs, big sports fans, and more. There's a great love for pets and gardening, and a willingness to participate in not only the Heron's Key community but the greater Gig Harbor community as well. Our average age is about 83, and we have a few people that treat it just like an apartment, and using our care staff as a "just-in-case."
We do an enormous variety of different events, often tuned and adjusted weekly to fit the interests of our population. We'll take trips out to the harbor, go to museums and zoos, we'll host musicians, bands, and other performers, we have professional gardeners visit for seminars, and that's only on the Penrose side of things! We also participate heavily in the Heron's Key community where they have many community visitors, interest groups, and social events like wine & cheese.
We are near quite a bit of shopping including groceries from Costco or Albertsons, Home Depot for any supplies, Target for clothing and other, we've got coffee shops, drycleaning, optometrists, Pier 1, and lots more! the Gig Harbor trolley runs right outside our community as well, making hourly trips to the downtown waterfront only 1 mile away.
In addition to the outings we do, we offer free transportation to medical appointments every Tuesday and Thursday, and we are always able to make appointments outside those days for our residents.
Our dining is operated by Guest Services, an organization owning multiple restaurants around the U.S. Relative to an in-house dining team, this allows our kitchens to be exceptionally supplied, staffed, and held to a much higher standard than you may see elsewhere.
All residents of Penrose receive pendants to be worn as necklaces or wristwatches, tuned to the entire community. Walk-in showers and multiple grab-bars keep residents safe in the restrooms. The community was built in 2017 offering state-of-art construction, fire safety, and earthquake measures. Modern generators protect us from any potential power losses.
Our care team works very closely with families to keep everyone in the loop about care changes and conditions, often through direct calls and even text messages.
We have long indoor walking areas for colder seasons, and a large variety of courtyards and walking paths outside. There are numerous forested paths nearby on the outside, and a circular path around a body of water behind the community.
All staff must take repeated courses on varieties of care and contingencies, emergency preparation, and disaster response. All staff takes courses on dementia care as well.
Assisted living can offer wanderguards for any residents that we think need an escort to their destination.
