FAQ About Manor Lake Assisted Living & Memory Care
Our resident population is educated, many of whom worked for the federal government, in the sciences or nursing field. The average age is 87 years old. 20% of our residents are veterans. Many of them are aware of current events and watch the news. Their favorite things to do are exercise, brain fitness, attend lectures and musical programs, and go to restaurants and outings.
Arbor Terrace offers programs which focus on each area of wellness. Below are some examples:
Yoga, pet therapy, musical entertainment and music therapy, flower arranging, word games and trivia, spiritual programs such as communion and shabbat, wine tastings and much more.
Many restaurants and shops are located within walking distance of Arbor Terrace. This includes Harris Teeter, CVS Pharmacy, quick service and casual dining options, banks, and dry cleaners.
Arbor Terrace provides weekly trips to the grocery store, pharmacy, bank and post office. Two days per week residents may be transported to medical appointments. Weekly outings are provided as well to restaurants, museums or scenic drives. We also have resources for other transportation services which are not provided by Arbor Terrace.
Arbor Terrace provides an all-day dining program. Although we have specific meal times, residents may dine in the main restaurant anytime between 8am and 7pm. Our chef accepts recommendations and will often make changes to the menu based on resident preference. All food is made from scratch and local vendors are used when possible for the freshest ingredients.
Arbor Terrace provides staff 24 hours per day for resident safety. The front desk is staffed from 8am to 8pm. When the front desk is not staffed, all exterior doors to the community are secured. Any visitors to the community must be assisted in and out from 8pm to 8am.
Arbor Terrace has routine family care conversations within 30 days after a resident moves in, every 6 months thereafter, or when there is a significant change in condition. The community also utilizes an app called Sagely for families to stay up-to-date on their loved one’s participation in programs. Sagely includes their program attendance as well as photos of their loved one. Families may also request a meeting at anytime.
Our staff to resident ratio changes based on occupancy and acuity level of our residents. During the daytime, our resident assistant (CNA)-to-resident ratio is at a minimum 1:15. This does not include our LPNs and med techs. This also does not include engagement, housekeeping, dining and management staff. The ratio is similar at nighttime which does include an LPN in the numbers
Residents may have a dog or cat reside in the apartment. Dogs may walk throughout the community and outside areas when on a leash, with the exception of dining areas.
Staff receive monthly training on various topics related to caring for seniors, such as, communicating with someone with dementia, infection control, chronic disease management, etc.
Arbor Terrace has a memory care neighborhood to protect residents who wander. We also have a wander management system in assisted living which can be used on a temporary basis.
