Thirwood Place is surrounded by wooded conservation lands and has access to a private beach for the exclusive use of the residents. Situated close to shopping malls, churches and medical facilities, the community is perfectly placed for easy access to all off-site amenities for the residents. All seniors in the community are cared for 24/7 by kind nurses and certified nurse's aides. The residents are given three meals daily, which are served with a view in the pond front dining room. The compassionate staff provides individual healthcare plans for each resident, giving them priority access to pharmacies, skilled nursing and Cape Cod Hospital. The residents are encouraged to keep their bodies and minds healthy by participating in on-site strength training, chair yoga, stretch and flexibility exercises and tai chi. For socializing, seniors can take advantage of scheduled day trips, relax on the spacious deck in the courtyard or take part in the daily planned activities offered by the community.

Thirwood Place residents range in age from 60 to over 100 years old. 85 years old is the average age in the assisted living. Thirwood Place has men, women and couples with diverse backgrounds – from careers as educators, lawyers, doctors, homemakers and veterans. Some are born and raised on Cape Cod and others made their way to the region later in life. They enjoy the abundance of programs that Thirwood Place offers in music, entertainment, arts and crafts, fitness classes and excursions around the Cape. They also make the local neighborhood their home, taking advantage of local beaches, golf courses, cultural center and shopping plazas.
Thirwood Places has a full activity calendar, keeping residents involved in community events within the campus as well as the surrounding areas. With a pool, fitness center, library, billiards room, green house and gardens on-site the residents can take part in their hobbies with their neighbors. Fitness classes such as Yoga, Tai Chi, and chair exercise are offered six days a week and lectures from local agencies and cultural organizations take place in the auditorium. Thirwood Place specializes in a low vision program providing staff specialized training in handling residents who are legally blind, support groups for residents and specially modified apartments and services.
Imagine a neighborhood inspired by the Cape’s natural beauty, off the beaten path, but close to all the Cape has to offer. Residents can enjoy the beautiful walking paths around Flax Pond or visit some of the attractions close by including the Cultural Center of Cape Cod, Cape Playhouse, Blue Rock Golf Course, public libraries, beautiful beaches and convenient shopping plazas. Transportation can be provided and the staff at Thirwood also coordinates outings and excursions to local museums, concerts and activities.
Town Car transportation is provided Monday - Friday to doctor appointments within a 10-mile radius. Food Shopping trips are made to a variety of stores two days a week. A shuttle bus goes to selected churches in the area on Sundays. Cultural and entertainment group excursions are provided regularly and ticket holders for the symphony and playhouse are also provided with transportation.
Thirwood Place residents can expect a variety of dining options from formal to casual. With three meals a day and a variety of choices, Assisted Living residents enjoy themed dinners, special events and holiday meals, as well. The chef has been at Thirwood Place for more than 15 years and acknowledges special diets – i.e. gluten, dairy-free, etc – as needed. The dining team at Thirwood takes advantage of Cape Cod’s fresh seafood and seasonal fare, making the menu delicious and enjoyable for all.
While residents are free to come and go from the neighborhood as they please, Thirwood Place has a number of safety and security measures in place. In assisted living, regular safety checks are performed by nurses and aids and there are emergency call buttons located in the kitchens, bedrooms and bathrooms of all apartments. There is 24-hour security stationed at the front desk and all residents are issued an emergency call pendant. Thirwood Place is nestled in a private neighborhood with close proximity to schools, churches and local businesses.
Thirwood Place staff keeps open communication with residents’ families and the Healthcare Director makes regular contact. All meals and activities are open to family members and we encourage loved ones to be part of the social activities and community at Thirwood Place. Cats, dogs, fish and feathered friends are welcome at Thirwood Place inside residents’ apartments. Leashed and well-behaved dogs and cats are allowed on the outdoor grassy areas and paved paths.
All Thirwood Place staff receives ten hours of training/year, as per MA regulations and guidelines. Thirwood Place has a continued partnership with Cape Cod Healthcare, who also helps facilitate additional trainings.
