FAQ About Manor Lake Assisted Living & Memory Care
Residents at our community are at least 65 years of age or older. We have residents that are anywhere from 65 to 101, and they all have in common the fact that they are independent with getting around the community. Some residents may walk, use a cane or walker, or propel themselves in a wheelchair, but everyone is able to get around on their own. Some residents need more help than others, and that's okay - we work to provide the care level that each resident needs.
Here at Elderwood Assisted Living at Tonawanda, we have a vibrant activities schedule. From card games, to bingo, to movies, to arts and crafts, there is always something to do. Even if there isn't a current scheduled activity, it is common to find residents working on puzzles in common areas, taking walks with friends or lounging on the couch watching T.V. together. During the warmer months, residents love spending time in our outdoor areas, soaking in the sun. Outings are on of the most popular activities within our community. A few times a month, a small group of residents will take a van to their favorite places - Ted's and Anderson's for some good eats, the Dollar Store for essentials, or The Christmas Tree Shop for some shopping.
There isn't walkable access to stores near our community, but the Tonawanda Senior Center is less than a half mile away, as is Sheridan Park and the golf course. Residents are able to have their own cars and park in our lot free of charge. The Village of Kenmore is just a few minutes away and provides tons of shopping in adorable boutiques and specialty restaurants and stores.
Elderwood Assisted Living at Tonawanda does not provide transportation, but we can help to arrange it. Our social worker can help make sure you have a ride that will get you where you need to go. Our activities van is reserved for activity outings only.
Our chef has been serving up meals in our community for nearly 20 years - meaning, she knows exactly what the residents love. Residents will choose their menus a week in advance and there are always at least two main options for each meal. There are always other options, too, such as simpler sandwiches, salads and soups. Lunch is our larger meal for the day, with dinner being a bit smaller. Everything is homemade - from the donuts, to the soups, to the fresh salads, it's all made with love. It's a pretty good sign when our staff can't wait to see what's for lunch each day, too.
Elderwood Assisted Living at Tonawanda is equipped with a brand new call bell system installed in 2020. In addition to traditional call bells near every bed, in every bathroom and all common areas, each resident is issued a personal pendent that they can press in an emergency. Any emergency calls are routed directly to our staff for immediate assistance.
Beginning in 2019, families will be invited to a family forum within six month's of their loved one's arrival. This is a private event for families, but an open forum for families to ask questions and express concerns. As always, we encourage families to keep an open line of communication with our staff at all times - from our nurses and aides, to admissions, to social work, to our business office, someone is always available to address your concerns. Monthly e-mails are sent out to interested families about upcoming events and activities.
