At Brookdale Harbison, we have a mixed population of independent residents who still drive and no longer want to worry about home maintenance, those who need minimal assistance or medication management to maintain their independence, and others who require more daily hands-on assistance. Ages vary from those in their 70's up to those approaching age 100 with most in the 80's and 90's. Our resident programs are designed to complement what our residents enjoy with engagement opportunities ranging from art classes, Zumba and Brookdale's signature B-Fit programs, to outings to museums, sporting events, shopping, and dining. For many residents, their favorite activities are breakfast, lunch, and dinner with our Brookdale exclusive made-from-scratch entrees, and yes we also have the residents' favorite game, Bingo!

At Brookdale Harbison, we offer our signature B-Fit exercise classes and Zumba to keep our residents fit and active. Other engagement opportunities include baking demonstrations, crafts, Flex-Your-Brain Trivia, Lunch Outings, Manicures, Shopping Outings, Walking Club, Devotionals, Church Services, Wellness Talks, Friday night Popcorn & Movie, and more. All our residents have a membership at the Harbison Recreation Center which has swimming, fitness center, plus additional classes on various topics, and day-trips. We also have at our community religious services, musical performances, and yes we have Bingo

At Brookdale Harbison, picturesque Harbison Lake is within walking distance, along with access to the Harbison Community Trail right outside our door. Also nearby are numerous shopping destiations including Columbiana Centre, the region's largest indoor shopping mall, restaurants from fast food to fine dining, entertainment, movies, and we are just minutes from vibrant Downtown Columbia. All resident also receive a free membership to nearby Harbison Recreation Center that offers swimming, fitness center, group activities, and day-trips. For those wanting to stay closer to home, Brookdale Harbison offers two enclosed and landscaped courtyards that are always available for residents to enjoy the Carolina sun

Brookdale Harbison offers scheduled transportation on our handicapped assessable bus to shopping, outings, and group dining destinations. On Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00am to 3:00pm, our community offers pre-scheduled transportation to local medical appointments. Other local transportation options are available as well

At Brookdale Harbison, excellent taste and good nutrition are important to all of our residents. We have developed many solutions to ensure that we provide our residents an exceptional dining experience, each and every day. Our "Better & Different" solutions includes our philosophy of making our meals from scratch. We know that foods taste better when it is made fresh using quality ingredients. That is why at Brookdale items like canned soups and sauces, pre-made entrées, and frozen vegetables are considered substandard and not acceptable. Nothing frozen or prepared can beat what we can make from scratch! Being hospitable is just as important as serving high quality food and we must ensure prompt service during all meals with our "Just Say Yes!" philosophy. At Brookdale Harbison, residents have a choice each meal from our featured entrée selections and our "always available menu." We also offer several approved therapeutic diets along with the Regular Diet selections

Our residents' and associates’ safety is at the forefront of what we do. To maintain a safe and secure environment, Brookdale Harbison maintains a controlled access and egress 24-hours per day. All visitors and vendors are required to sign in/out and wear a visitor's badge. Each apartment is also equipped with an in-room call system for needs and emergencies. Our falls management and comprehensive care review programs involve a team approach where our Brookdale team works with the resident, medical provider, therapy, and family to allow our residents to be as independent as possible, while providing the services they need and desire. For any natural or man-made disasters, Brookdale Harbison has an approved emergency and disaster manual that is customized for our community

At Brookdale Harbison we take pride in our resident and family engagement. We keep our families informed via regular emails, phone calls, and community events like family nights and holiday dinners and parties. We notify families as soon as possible for any resident emergencies.

At Brookdale Harbison, we maintain, and many times exceed, state required staffing ratios of one associate for every eight residents from 7:00am to 7:00pm and one associate for every thirty residents from 7:00pm to 7:00am

Brookdale Harbison is a pet friendly community!

All new Brookdale Harbison associates must complete a full curriculum of state required, plus additional Brookdale required "Foundations" courses from a variety of subjects. These courses must be completed before the new associate steps on the floor. One the associate completes the initial training, he or she will receive a combination of shadowing a mentor and receiving additional "live" trainings from various Brookdale Harbison managers, including the Health & Wellness Director and the Executive Director. Training never stops at Brookdale Harbison. To maintain our highly trained associates, each associate must complete required monthly trainings .

At Brookdale Harbison in our assisted living, we can work with residents with certain types and stages of dementias. When needed, our trained associates can redirect residents who may become confused, need reminders, need assistance in planning their daily schedule, or need an associate to escort them to activities, dining, etc. Our 24-hour controlled entrance also helps us monitor who is entering and exiting our community. Of course the best prevention for this are active and engaged residents, which our resident engagement programs provide daily. Our resident programs are designed around what our residents like and enjoy to provide a quality life enrichment experience.
