Our community’s residents are very diverse in age and level of care. We have a couple in their 70’s, most in their 80’s and 90’s and a couple centennials. Some are just here with their spouses and still independent and drive. Some are only here for meals and housekeeping, and some are here for our maximum amount of care. Some of their favorite things to do are exercise class, BINGO, entertainment, and Happy Hour.

Outings on the bus- lunch outings, scenic bus rides, pet therapy, entertainment, purposeful programs such as welcome ambassador, flower arrangement groups for the dining room, resident council meetings and menu chats with the chef and many others

We have a beautiful pond out back with bird watching. There are also nearby restaurants, diners, and shopping plazas.

We have a small bus with a wheelchair lift that sits 12 people.

What makes the chef or dining program at Brookdale Port Orange exceptional? What kind of menu can assisted living residents expect?

Our chef has many years of culinary experience. He catered for very large, high-end businesses and also ran a kitchen of 13 cooks at a large community in Orlando before joining us. The residents love not only the taste and presentation of the meals he prepares, but they also love his caring and attentive personality. He makes a point to go out in the dining room after serving every meal to ensure everyone’s satisfaction. We have a high-end restaurant style atmosphere with menus for both lunch and dinner every day. There is always a main course and sides and dessert with many alternate items to choose from.

What safety features or security measures does Brookdale Port Orange offer to assisted living residents?

Our community is both key code in and out. We staff nurses to be onsite 24/7. We hold an LNS license to be able to offer a higher level of care when needed. We have call bell systems in all apartments. We have a full run generator in place if the power goes out. We do daily checks

How does Brookdale Port Orange keep residents' families informed about their loved ones?

We make phone calls when necessary. We also email and mail them invites to events. They have all of our company issued cell phone numbers to call or text us anytime. Our head nurse mails out care plans for them to sign of any changes after calling them first. We also have a Facebook page they can like and follow to keep up with happenings in activities.

What ongoing senior care training does the staff receive?

We have all staff in-service meetings monthly where we cover one or two topics of refresher courses. We also have online classes provided by the company that associates do on their own monthly or quarterly. There are constant CPR training available and memory care classes as well.

Our community is secured. All doors leading outside of community are alarmed. We also offer an inner courtyard that the building wraps around so they can outside anytime.
