FAQ About Manor Lake Assisted Living & Memory Care
Our residents live an active life, while living with care support. Our monthly engagement during COVID enables residents to socialize and maintain fellowship, in a safe environment. Residents enjoy pool therapy, anytime dining, singing, making crafts like Chinese Watercolor Cards and so much more. Our residents have an average age of 85. Men and women from Vermont love our community for the open outdoor rec spaces, ponds and walking paths. Local family members have an easy time "selling the benefits" of our community to loved ones in need because of the gorgeous apartments, spacious campus and friendly residents that reside here.
Residents are permitted guests in our greeting room during COVID. Our engagement team offers ZOOM calls with family members who are not able to visit in person. An average day consists of atleast 5 different activities. Tai Chi, chair yoga, PT/OT, walking clubs, wine and cheese socials, family dining style or a more intimate dining experience in our bistro. Every resident fills out a personal history form so that we can not only engage on a personal level once they move in, but also connect them with other residents that share common faith, interests, dining habits, lifestyle and demeanor. Our role is to honor the interests of all residents and help facilitate a welcoming environment from the first day they are here with us. Residents often say they feel like they "already belong to our family" here.
The community spans 3 acres near Lake Champlain. We offer a large pond in our courtyard with a paved walking path surrounding. Our perennial garden is tucked away in our back courtyard and features a coy pond and perennial garden that many residents tend to in warmer months.
Shelburne Farms, Shelburne Museum, The Spirit of Ethan Allen boat on Lake Champlain, local ice cream shops and maple syrup stops, fall foliage rides and picnics at several gorgeous lookouts are part of our regular programming.
Our 14 passenger van and 7 person shuttle offer residents 4 monthly trips to scheduled appointments. We also offer scenic rides during the spring, summer and fall. If our driver is headed to an appointment and our residents want to "go for a trip to the market" we always accommodate.
Our culinary program is headed by a European Master Chef. When residents move in we ask them for their favorite meals but also a recipe they would like to see incorporated in to our specials. It is a wonderful opportunity to feel connected and break bread with the residents and speak about their dish when it is offered. Residents can dine from 7 AM to 7 PM in our main dining room or from 10-3 in our Bistro. The Bistro offers flatbread, pasta dishes, crab cakes and daily specials, all prepared in front of the residents and it truly is like a restaurant experience.
There are two distinct buildings, our independent and assisted living building where the security features are presented. In our independent building has a front desk agent there 24 hours a day who can assist with any emergent needs. This front desk person also does apartment checks twice a day, in the morning and at night. This is simply to ensure that each resident is accounted for within the community. Within our assisted living building our care staff is available 24/7.
Because we have a pool, this is video monitored. Our grounds are also monitored with surveillance.
Each apartment is equipped with a pull cord that signals to the nursing team that a resident has an immediate need. Residents also wear pendants that the care team responds to requests for care. Our internal phone system also has a built in security feature. If it is knocked off of the receiver this sends a signal to the nursing team and front desk that they are in distress.
The residents and families receive information in several different formats. Families have weekly or bi-weekly communication from the Executive Director. Families also are invited to Zoom calls regarding new residents care plan meetings within the first 14 days, and then thereafter when requested by families or the nursing associates if there are any concerns or care changes. Phone calls are the most valuable and timely form of communication and this occurs on a regular basis. All resident families are provided the nurse email and phone number for any questions to be answered regarding their loved one.
This varies by floor, occupancy and care level. Our community provides families detailed accounts of pendant response times.
Pets are welcome here! Our outside courtyard, perennial garden and paved walking paths are a favorite with the dogs.
