FAQ About Manor Lake Assisted Living & Memory Care
Oak Pointe of Neosho’s Memory Care Neighborhood is designed to engage residents and encourage interaction between residents, caregivers and families. The neighborhood is intentionally designed to provide “activity” stations that appeal to residents who may wander or have repetitive behaviors. Our activities director and her assistant provide a Memory Care Activity calendar that is carried out by Memory Care Staff.
Oak Pointe of Neosho is a pet-friendly community and we understand that our residents’ pets are family. Dogs and cats are welcome; however, must remain inside the resident’s personal apartment. All pets must be leashed when outside the resident’s apartment, in common areas, or outside on the grounds. Pets are not allowed in the dining rooms at any time.
Oak Pointe of Neosho is committed to ensuring that our caregivers are provided with ongoing education and training. Upon becoming a member of our team, each staff member is provided with an extensive orientation process that includes both State required training and additional training required by our community. Both new hire training and our ongoing continuing education programs include topics related to dementia, Fire Safety and Emergency Preparedness, Resident Safety, Confidentiality and Safeguarding of resident information, Safe Medication Administration Techniques and Customer Service. Training for staff is provided through in-person, in-services and on- line continuing education.
We use resident and family input starting at the pre-admission process and continue to find out about the resident’s needs and wants, then tailor a personal care plan for each resident. The plan is reviewed on a regular basis and changed as needed. We are committed to open communication with our resident’s and families and encourage family members to attend our Caregiver Support group where they can be educated to the disease process and bond with others going through similar circumstances.
Resident safety and security are a top priority for us, Safety measure include Sign-in and Sign-out logs for residents and visitors at our front concierge station. All entry and exit doors are alarmed and linked to staff pagers. Video security cameras are placed throughout the community and monitored for activity. The front doors are locked from 7:00 p.m.-7:00 a.m. daily. All other doors always remain locked from the outside and require a code or staff member to gain entrance. Residents with a known history of wandering are referred to the care of our Memory Care neighborhood.
Oak Pointe of Neosho trains every staff member to be prepared to work with residents who have dementia/Alzheimer diagnoses. That begins at orientation and continues through out employment. Our state guidelines require that we provide ongoing education program for staff regarding dementia training and care skills. We also provide a Caregiver’s Support Group for residents, resident families and the community.
Oak Pointe of Neosho begins building a great communication and information exchange with residents and their families beginning with each resident’s pre-admission process. Our team spends time learning about each resident individual needs and preferences to ensure a person-centered, individualized plan using resident and family input. The plan is reviewed on a regular basis and as a resident’s needs or preferences change we update to reflect those changes. We encourage families to visit the community often, ask questions and visiting with our leadership team and staff whenever possible, to ensure we are meeting the needs of our resident and family members. All resident and family member receive our activity calendar and our newsletter by mail monthly. We encourage family members to come and participate with their loved ones in any activities of their choice. We also share photos with our friends and families engaging in social and recreational activities through our Facebook page!
Oak Pointe of Neosho provides staff for our Memory Care Neighborhood 24-hours a day. The staffing depends on the number of residents who make their home there. The state of Missouri requires a minimum of staff required for a Memory Care Neighborhood. We make sure we meet or exceed that number.
Neosho is right off Hwy 71 right between Joplin and Northwest Arkansas. Neosho is also known as the flower box city. We love to visit our beautiful parks and springs that are all around town.
We are located not far from the High school which brings many students to come and sing or do activities with us. We are also not far from the downtown square that has coffee shops, bakery and even some shopping. Our local YMCA is not far at all which is next to Crowder College where a lot of students come from there and volunteer as well.
We identify their likes and dislikes of food upon admission and cater those to each resident. To assist them in making choices at meal time we provide a picture menu to make it easier for them. Depending on their level of function, we also provide finger foods that make eating easier for them.
We have a wonderful mix of people and personalities. Many veterans, local business owners, politicians, farmers, health care, electricians, retail and many that were involved or volunteered in the community. Our residents bond quickly, and we become each other’s extended family. Our resident range in age from 65 to 102. Some of our favorite activities are puzzles, shopping, going to the local bakery, dominoes, going to the fish hatchery and going to the park to feed the ducks. We also love to exercise, makes crafts, go to bible study, sing and play all kinds of instruments. During the spring and summer, you can catch us outside in our beautiful courtyard planting flowers, tomato plants and just enjoying the sunshine.
Oak Pointe of Neosho ensures that our caregiver-to-resident ratio meets or exceeds required State of Missouri requirements. Our goal is to ensure that each resident receives the care and supportive services they need to maximize their independence while living in our community
Oak Pointe of Neosho’s Director of Nursing and Wellness manages the assessment of each resident using monthly reviews, regularly scheduled individual service plan updates and ongoing communication with staff and families.
Oak Pointe of Neosho is not directly affiliated with a hospital system. However, we are located approximately 2 miles from Neosho Freeman hospital and approximately 20 miles from Mercy Joplin hospital and Freeman Joplin Hospital.
Oak Pointe of Neosho is designed to the latest in fire safety standards and life safety codes with a fully integrated alarm system that includes smoke detectors in all resident apartments and throughout the community and a remote connection to a central dispatching system. Our community has a fully operational sprinkler system ensuring even greater safety for residents. Residents are provided with an emergency call system that is monitored in a central location and alerts staff when a resident needs assistance. All entry and exit doors are alarmed and provide a greater measure of security. Our front entrance is locked at 7:00 p.m. nightly and requires a code and staff assistance to enter the community after hours. Oak Pointe is also monitored 24/7 via a security camera to ensure the safest possible setting for each of our residents and guests.

We offer a huge variety of life enriching activities that vary from day to day. Our calendar is full of all types of exercises ranging from aerobics, chair yoga, upbeat stretching to music and even cardio drumming. Some of our other activities include fun and exciting outings, amazing entertainers and even brain enhancing games.
We strive to create meals that feel familiar and personalized for our residents. Our chef can incorporate resident recipes into our menu. The menu is constantly updated to create meals that are flavorful and radiant to the resident’s life. Our meals are served restaurant style in our beautiful dining room. We also have a private dining room that our residents can use for parties and family gatherings. Everything is prepared to order with a featured menu for each meal and ala carte menu is available as well. Breakfast is available upon request at all three meals!
Oak Pointe of Neosho provides complimentary transportation via our wheelchair lift van to and from medical appointments. We also use our van to take residents on outings to local attractions, shopping, restaurants and entertainment venues.
