FAQ About Manor Lake Assisted Living & Memory Care
Brookdale Fairhaven serves residents with a wide range of needs. Our youngest resident is 65 and our most senior resident is 105! Because our community is a single level, residents are able to easily participate in programs with minimal barriers. Currently, we have an active group of gentlemen who love entertaining their friends with their best jokes. Our best attended program is our daily exercise class which is often resident lead.
Each month, residents meet with our Program Director to plan the calendar. They share their interests and provide feedback on current activities to create a truly resident-driven calendar. Residents love going on shopping shuttles, going to the casino and out to lunch. They also love partnering with our local middle school by joining them for class once a week and sharing their words of wisdom. There is also an active knitting club that donates their knitted hats to a local homeless shelter.
Starbucks is an easy walk up the street and is in the same complex as an optometrist office and urgent care. We are directly on a bus line that offers a short ride to downtown Fairhaven, Bellingham's historic district located on the Waterfront, offering hotels, local shopping and restaurants. It's also where Bellingham's Ferry Terminal is located. Right outside Brookdale's front door is access to the interurban trail which is miles of gravel paths through the woods that lead into downtown.
We offer a weekly medical shuttle, regular bus outings to restaurants, grocery stores and shopping. We will also schedule public transportation to Doctor's appointments for you. We are also located directly on a bus line.
Each month, residents meet with our Dining Services Director for a menu chat. Our Dining director listens to likes, dislikes, feedback and suggestions so she can make a menu catered to their liking. You can expect to have fresh, homemade food each day. And you'll get to enjoy scratch-made cookies every day at 2:30 pm. Your mashed potatoes will never be instant and you'll have plenty of options for veggies.
Each resident is given a pendant which allows them to call for staff 24-hours per day. It will also auto-detect falls. It's also waterproof and safe to wear in the shower. We are equipped with all the modern safety features and have regular fire drills to ensure all staff, on all shifts, can confidently manage an emergency and keep our residents safe.
Part of being a smaller community means families have consistent access to all staff, including our department heads. Our nursing and care staff inform families of any changes in condition and have regular care meetings. Our nursing team regularly communicates with physicians in order to ensure comprehensive care. When a resident first moves in, we always assess. Part of that assessment is asking the family how they would like us to best partner with them.
We have an on-site nurse 7 days a week from 7:30 am.-8:30 p.m. In addition, we have our Health and Wellness director (a nurse) during normal business hours. In addition to that, we have a med-tec and care associates 24 hours per day focused just on care. Because our care structure is unique and individualized to each resident, it allows us to staff according to the need in our community.
We love animals and they are welcome, on-leash, anywhere in the community other than the dining room. We also ask that resident are able to take care of their animals independently, or have arrangements for them to be take care of.
We have required training each month that is specific to the department of each of our staff. in addition, we have monthly staff meetings to review training and focus on areas that would benefit our residents specifically.
We have trained staff in our community 24 hours a day and secure our doors each evening. However, residents are able to leave the community at any time. If residents leave the community and are at risk of getting lost, it's likely they will need a different setting. We are dedicated to advocating for the best interest of our residents. If they are not able to stay safe in our setting, we will work with the family to help them find a community that can meet their needs and keep them safe.
